Frequently Asked Questions

Are all courses online? Yes, this entire program is online. All you will need is an internet connection and an adequate PC or laptop with memory for the required software.

Is this an online college? What are its credentials? WITCC was founded in 1966 and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission & AdvancED. WIT is a non-profit with five campuses in northwest Iowa. The main campus is located in Sioux City.

Are there any requirements where you have to be on site? No, all course content and delivery is done online directly through Canvas and Discord.

 

Do I need to purchase any software before i enroll in the classes? No, we pre-purchase any licensed software ahead of time in bulk at a reduced rate and provide the students with a copy of any software they need. We do not Retail the software so all savings via this method are reflected directly into the student tuition. And after initial enrollment the software is your to keep forever regardless of graduation.

Is someone on the main campus I can contact if I have questions? We have a Mentor Lab to support students in this program and students that do not live locally can connect via Discord and TwtichTV (Internet TV).

Does a graduate have application or diploma fees when they graduate? There are no fees for graduating nor for any certificate or diploma,

Are there Exam fees? There are no exams because the program is project-based. Project due dates vary by course and are identified in each course. Skills are tested via actual application results.

What does the student need in order to get a job in this industry? Getting a job in the industry requires having a professional portfolio that demonstrates one has acquired expected industry pipeline skills. Graduates will develop, by the end of the program, a production-ready portfolio. Requirements vary by job type and company, but graduates will have the skills necessary to adjust their portfolios accordingly.

Are these skills just for Video Game Design? The training in the program focuses on learning the video game pipeline and preparing a professional portfolio. However, almost all of these skills transfer to the digital advertisement industry, The Movie Media industry, and most modern product design development. The programs we teach are used in all of these industries. (3d object creation, Digital artistry, scripting, and Visual Studio development.)

As a European what opportunity would I have? The European video gaming industry is worth a projected 32.5 billion in 2020. This is a continuously growing market in countries such as Germany, France, and Sweden. Due to the nature of the work and communication technologies, location of the employer has become less of an issue. Many people can work from home. One of our instructors is a working professional developing video games in Kosovo and has traveled extensively in Europe. Even video game developers in Europe require applicants to provide a good portfolio with educational experience. The training in the program focuses on learning the video game pipeline and preparing a production-ready portfolio.

How many job opportunities are there? There are many opportunities as long as the applicant possesses the requisite skills. The games industry is at an all-time high, reaching an estimated $230 billion by 2022. Statistically, video games are now the most popular and profitable form of entertainment beating out Cable TV and Streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu.
